Spinning Babies and more

Hello and I hope you are staying warm today! If you live in Alberta you know that winter made an entrance today. I knew it was coming but it still feels too cold l and I'm not mentally prepared for 6 months of this.
I spent 8 hours yesterday learning about the Spinning Babies method. What is the that? It's a method of prenatal, labour and delivery care that focuses on getting babies into the best position so that birthing people can have uncomplicated births. Sounds super simple but when you look at the rate of c-sections and births with interventions it feels like a big deal.
I have been working with pregnant people for 15 years, and I have heard many many stories of births that went haywire and the birthing person was left traumatized and/or injured. This breaks my heart because I know that birth can be a beautiful and empowering experience. It can be so much better than what it is right now.
I learned alongside nurses, midwives, and doulas, who are passionate about birth. Much of the information we learned was new to me, yet so simple, intuitive, and sensible. Every L&D nurse, doula, and midwife should know these methods.
I think that the biggest takeaway was that our bodies require some maintenance. We are not machines but we do require thoughtful and purposeful movements to feel good, and I think that applies to all of us, not just pregnant peeps.
As this applies to pregnant people, prior injuries, lifestyle, and the way we move effects how the baby snuggles up inside. Babies just find the most comfortable position. If you have pain during pregnancy it could be your baby communicating with you that they're not in an ideal position, and an ideal position makes a huge difference in labour and birth.
My goal in prenatal yoga has always been to alleviate pain and help women feel better in their changing bodies, and now I have a few more tools and knowledge to facilitate that. The next session of Prenatal begins November 23!
